At Farmstrong Scotland, we know farming and crofting life can be fast-paced and full on, and that looking after yourself isn’t always easy. That’s why this October we’re shining a light on menopause in the farming community.
Every woman will experience menopause, but no two experiences are the same. Symptoms can be physical, emotional, or both, ranging from hot flushes and night sweats to brain fog, mood changes, joint aches, and more. For many, the impact on their wellbeing can be huge, especially when you’re running a farm or croft where the work doesn’t stop.
Our new Menopause leaflet shares:
- A simple guide to common symptoms
- Practical tips for managing day-to-day
- Advice on treatments and therapies
- How partners, family and colleagues can offer support
- Myth-busting facts to help everyone understand it better
Why It Matters
Too often, menopause is something that’s whispered about, or not talked about at all. In farming, where communities are tight-knit and work is demanding, it’s even more important we open up. By sharing real stories from women across Scotland’s agricultural community, we’re showing that menopause is normal, it matters, and that support is out there.
Top Tips from the Leaflet
- Talk about it - laughter helps, honesty helps even more.
- Look after your body - eat well, move often, and prioritise rest.
- Ask for support - from your GP, pharmacist, or loved ones.
- Don’t go it alone - connect with others who understand.
For Men & Family
Menopause isn’t just “a women’s issue.” The more partners, family members and colleagues know, the better they can support the women in their lives. From showing patience on tough days to encouraging medical advice when needed, small actions make a big difference.
